AME Summer Internship

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact the Applied Molecular Epidemiology (AME) Summer Internship might have on participants regarding career planning and decision-making. We hope to learn more about how the program may attract young adults to choose careers in the fields of public health, laboratory science, epidemiology, or bioinformatics.

  • Inclusion Criteria Are 16 to 25 years old. Are an upcoming junior or senior in high school, or are currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at an accredited university in the United States. Are currently in good academic standing, defined as maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher and not failing major STEM-related assignments, as demonstrated by a recent progress report. Have completed the screening procedures: submission of all required program forms, completion of mandatory safety trainings, and health provider confirmation of a negative TB test for laboratory clearance. Exclusion Criteria: Are unable to attend the in-person internship at least 80% of the time (for example, missing more than one day of the internship per week without a written excuse or missing one hour or more of internship on daily basis).
