Nonallergic rhinitis (NAR) is the most common type of chronic rhinitis, a condition affecting 40% of Americans. Although diagnostic tools for NAR are available, utilization rates are low within our area. This will be a pilot study investigating the use of non-invasive endotyping modalities such as nasal swabs or nasal curettes as the diagnostic tools. We will look at the relationship between signs of allergic inflammation and clinical control of symptoms. The goals of this study will be to investigate the relationship between NAR type and clinical outcomes, as well as demonstrate that it is feasible to use nasal swabs/nasal curettes as a tool for determining NAR subtype within in our institution. Future investigations after this pilot study will explore how modifying local inflammation in NAR can affect progression of atopic disease.
