Advanced Disaster Life Supportâ„¢ Course

The Advanced Disaster Life Supportâ„¢ (ADLS) course is an intense two-day, 15-hour course that allows participants to demonstrate competencies in mass casualty management.

Core education elements include the ADLS manual and five interactive lectures with topics including:

  • Disasters and Public Health Emergencies
  • Triage in Disasters and Public Health Emergencies
  • Health System Surge Capacity
  • Community Health Emergency Operations and Response
  • Legal and Ethical Issues in Disasters

Course objectives are achieved through disaster scenarios. Training components include:

  • Mass casualty triage tabletop and field exercise
  • Surge tabletop scenario for a health care facility
  • The shift from individual- to population-based care in disasters
  • Apply EOC roles in response to a simulated mass casualty event
  • Learn to Don and doff PPE and decontamination video review
  • Apply clinical skills for the management of mass casualties in simulated all-hazards scenarios.

Prerequisite:  Successful completion of Basic Disaster Life Supportâ„¢ (BDLS®) course.

 The ADLS course is ideal for personnel from emergency medical service, hazardous materials, public health, and other health care professionals that respond to natural disasters, traumatic and explosive events, nuclear and radiological events, biological events and chemical events.
